Mantanani Island, Malaysia

Spent 4 days on this beautiful island on Borneo’s coast. We were visiting our architect friend Dave, who was taking part in a volunteer project involving him and a team of 10 other architects designing and building a marine conservation centre, which will be used to educate the locals and also gap year kids on marine conservation. The building was amazing and used a lot of driftwood with recycled bottle finishings. It was amazing to see such a creative design made in such a short time (3 weeks). We were lucky enough to be able to help out with the project while we were their which meant a lot of hammering, nailing and sawing - don’t think I’ve ever done such a hard days work before! I also made some ‘art’ for the wall of the centre using old bottle caps.
